Guiding Root's Mission Statement

The mission of Guiding Roots is to provide therapeutic support, guidance, educational and behavioral strategies to parents, caregivers, schools, and guardians to help their children/students grow. We provide these supports as a team with you and truly help you understand the root of the behaviors and form solutions that are easy for you to carry out and that work!

Hunter graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Disability Services, concurrently working as a direct support professional for adults with special needs. Post-graduation, she assumed the role of a Behavior Specialist for adults with special needs while pursuing her Masters in Education of Applied Behavior Analysis from California University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, Hunter transitioned to a behavioral health technician, formerly known as a TSS (therapeutic support staff), engaging with children of various ages with diverse needs, including trauma backgrounds, ADHD, and Autism. Hunter obtained her license in 2021 upon completing her master’s program and subsequently worked in the role of a behavioral consultant, offering support to families and teachers.

Before college, Hunter accumulated extensive experience working with children, ranging from early babysitting responsibilities to serving as a teacher in the high school preschool program, interning at a preschool, and working in daycares.

In her leisure time, you’ll find Hunter tending to her physical and mental well-being through daily CrossFit workouts, nurturing her daughter Halen, enjoying the company of her dog Monte, and passionately supporting her boyfriend Brett in dirt track racing.

Whether you are experiencing behavioral, developmental, social, and/or emotional concerns with your child, Rachael Ott wants to work with you to help navigate and listen to your child’s needs and create successful outcomes. Rachael is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who has worked in the field for the past 20 years providing intensive behavioral health services to a wide variety of clients. Rachael has worked within the home, community, and school settings with clients to aide in their success within the least restrictive setting as possible. She specializes in working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as many other behavioral and emotional disorders. Rachael works closely with clients, their families, and their teachers to address behavioral, environmental, and emotional concerns that could be impacting their daily living.

She has provided treatment to clients with trauma, neglect, sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ODD, Angelman syndrome, and mood disorders. 

Rachael started in the field as a Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) to clients. She went on to obtain many different roles including outpatient therapist, Mobile Therapist, strength-based therapist, Licensed Behavior Specialist, and Assistant Clinical Director. Rachael has worked as an LBS as well as a BCBA providing IBHS services to Westmoreland County. Rachael obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Sociology in 2004 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She received her Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2008 from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Rachael went on to complete the ABA/CLM (Applied Behavior Analysis/Competent Learner Model) Advanced Competency Certificate Program in 2022 from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. This program helped her obtain her Board Certified Behavior Analyst certificate from the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.

Rachael’s primary modalities of treatment include Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Expressive Art Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Rachael aims to build a strong rapport with clients and their families to best achieve therapeutic milestones.

She is devoted to supporting and advocating for families, teachers, and caregivers to effectively manage challenging behaviors by showing compassion and respect across all settings. Her passion is to help create hope for parents and their children as well as provide guidance. When she is not working, Rachael commits her time to her family and dogs. She cherishes time with her children, whether it is watching her son’s baseball games or her daughter’s gymnastics and cheer competitions.
